“Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.”
This is a beautiful promise from Jesus, but what exactly did he just promise us? I don’t think he is telling us that life will be easy when we follow him. There are other Gospel passages where he warns us that we will have to take up our cross to follow him, or when he tells the rich young man to sell all that he has to follow him, or all sorts of other times when he talks about the seriousness of belonging to him.
